Assng #7 Chp 11

Illustrate important considerations of effective labs and hands-on activities when guiding student learning with and about technology in the various subject matter areas.
To have a productive hands-on activity the teacher must prepare ahead of time. She/he must have all the tools for the lab whether that means computers, paper, crayons and so forth. Preparation is the key to success. Once you have everything in order you want to introduce the lab to the students before hand. Allowing them to wrap their minds around the up coming activity. I feel its best to introduce the lab a day ahead of time. This way the students are focused on you and not the task at hand. During the lab you want to clearly state what your going to be doing and make the instruction clear and easy to follow. Leave time for questions and allow students enough time to mess around with the program. At the end of the lesion or during the teacher can ask leading questions to see if the students are engaged in the lab. She/he can evaluate the students verbally verse quiz; easy and can be fun.
How would you handle different levels of cognition when using computer? How do you keep Jimmy up to speed up on the steps with out slowing the class down?
During middle school I had a great computer teacher who allowed enough time for typing class and welcomed questions. He made sure we had all the tools to complete the task.

Assgn #5 Chp 3

Recommend activities that support learner centered explorations of subject matter content to engage students in using multimedia as a productivity tool, communication tool, research tool, and problem-solving and decision-making tool.
- Put a slide show together. The topic would be, Life of a frog. Requirements would be to incorporate pictures, data, text, and the basic anatomy.
- They could also create a video with all of the information. It could be still or voice.
- Create a map of the counties/states/towns they have visited. Either by mind mapping or creating a map on the computer.

I like that education is now incorporating technology into our curriculum but what do educators do when their school district can’t afford computers?
This was semi the case in Cambodia (yes-I know it’s a different country). What about the inter city schools. I have heard of some schools not having enough books for their students. How do we as a teacher incorporate technology into the curriculum?

Week 6 Chp 8 (Assgn 5a)

Week 5 Chp 13 (Assgn 4a)

1. Clarify the purposes for different types of assessments and how those assessments support learning in technology-rich environments.

Assessments are ongoing within school systems. Teachers need to be able to provide some evidence about what and how students learn during the instructions. Multiple assessments are used over the time period of instruction and can be done in several ways.
Diagnostic assessment is to used to anticipate whether the students are going to have a difficultly within the subject matter. For example if your requiring your students to re-enact a scene from William Shakespeare using iMovie. The Teacher might use an assessment to see if their students have the necessary skills to complete the assignment rather than assuming.
Preassessment help teachers make decisions about what content needs to be included during the instructions. Suppose in your science class your doing an entire unit on volcanoes, but you want to know what your students already know about volcanoes. Doing a preassessment will allow you to accurately plan for the unit based on what your student already know.
Summative assessment are a comprehensive view of the knowledge skills, behaviors, dispositions students have gained through the instructions. Allow the teacher to see how far along the student has come from the beginning of the unit plan. Teachers can use the preassessment to compare with the summative assessment to describe each students learning improvements.

2. What would be the most accurate why to present preassessment vs. summative information bases on each child's knowledge on the year as a whole to their parents. A bar graph? Pie chart?

3. I used preassessment in my math unit of measurement. This way I could accurately plan my upcoming unit.

Week 3 Chapter 4 (Assgn 2a)

1. Identify what is meant by technology to learn to use technology literacy for the twenty-first century.

Everyday our country is coming up with new ways of integrating technology in our academic system. As a teacher and school staff personnel its our responsibility to step up and keep up with the times. Because our world today is operating on electronics its vital to integrate basic technological knowledge into our curriculum. In the simplier days, teachers only needed to make sure the students left with the knowledge of how to read, write and hold a pencil. But, because of our evoloving country its vital to teach our students the basics of technology because after all are we as teachers getting our students ready for the real world?

2. Why is it that if the NETS wants students to be knowledgeable in technology when why don't they provide school districs with the appropriat funding?

3. My teaching experience was in a third world country. When I taught computer class I made sure my students (kindergarten) knew how to turn on the computer open word document and write simple sentences.

Week 4 Chapter 12 Reflection (Assgn 4a)

1. Identifying knowledge inputs that are useful in designing lessons that integrate technology.
Having knowledge of the content to be covered in class is very important because how else are you going to teach? As a teacher its your responsibility to research more in debt about the subject because you then can: one: be knowledgeable about the subject, two: so you can answer the students questions as they arise and three: because you can use the resources you used while acquiring the information for the class.
2. Why is it that most beginner teachers teach like how they were taught? I guess its because they have nothing else to stand on. I know that when I was teaching in Cambodia I did a lot of what I was use to, which usually resulted in counting to 3 when needing the attention of the class. I used a lot of the same punishment tactics too.
3.I was limited when it came to technology because of the circumstances, but I do remember using my computer to show different things online when I didn't have the material.
